February Thoughts
Wow. I can't believe I'm writing this post and we are heading very quickly into March! I wanted to pause at this point in the year just to have a look back over the months gone by and prepare for what's to come.
As I'm writing this I've just come to the end of a lovely half term break. This half term marks half way through this academic year. It marks a time where we are slowly moving out of the cold winter months and starting to notice all things Spring. A lot of my thinking tends to move in line with the seasons. Seasonal shifts tend to have a shift in my mindset also. I'm loving driving with lighter skies, and spotting daffodils, crocuses and snowdrops popping their heads from the soil. These things give me hope of the joys of what is to come. It reminds me that through the cold, dark winter, things have been growing and working beneath our muddy soil to grow these beautiful flowers. This reminds me that although we might be walking through a darker place, that God is working and preparing for all things good and beautiful.
February was a hard month. Things ramped up at work and I found that I was working much more than I should be. Yes this gave me peace of mind with ticking things off but it meant that the things I do to bring me joy got put on the back burner. Sabbaths turned into an extra weekday and I found that it was a treat to have time to hang out the washing or hoover. That's pretty sad 😂
In January I was still riding on the seasonal shift that comes with moving into a new year and I was good at making time for fun things. Although I've spent a lot of my time this half term getting some work bits done, it has been a reminder that I need to take things slowly and not try and cram lots of things into my days.
I've loved reading. I've loved catching up with people that I haven't had time to see for longer than it should have been. I've been sewing a new project and enjoyed doing some hand stitching. This weekend we went away with family and enjoyed slower days in the sunshine, playing games and starting a puzzle. (The puzzle that James and I started two years ago in lockdown and still haven't finished... remember that puzzle? We've also since got a puppy who may or may not have eaten a few of the pieces...)
Looking ahead into March we have some exciting things coming up and it looks like a fun, but busy month. A month full of birthdays and Easter is on it's way! It's also lent so I'm hoping to make some small adjustments to my days to spend time refocusing this season:
Leave work on time. Turn my laptop on less at home. Spend more time reading. Pick up my bible in the evening, not just in the morning. Be better at picking up my bible in the morning. Sew, sew, sew. Turn off the T.V at 9.00. Maybe start doing regular exercise... maybe.
Do you find a change in season influences your head space?
Thankyou for reading! Happy Springtime!
Emily xx
