Home Diaries | Dining Room
Happy Saturday!
I hope you've had a good week in this lockdown period. I've had some more work bits to do this week which has been great to be keeping busy. We've also been working on our bathroom, trying to give it up a bit of a budget renovation... which is slowly coming together! Our fridge also sadly died this week, but it meant we had to buy a new one, which seems like a very grown up purchase! When did we start getting excited about large appliances..?
I thought that now that our dining room is pretty much finished, it was about time to do another home diaries post sharing some of my favourite areas of our dining room, and where we bought bits from to give you some inspiration! Please ask if I've missed something!
This room really won us over when we were house hunting. We were so happy to have found somewhere with space for a dining table and more. It's so light and airy and we're loving having the double doors open with this warmer weather. In the evening we also have fairy lights around the top of the room which makes it so cosy. Perhaps I'll share a photo of that another time!

Let's start with one of my favourite areas, the fire place. I love the wooden framing, which I stained when we were redecorating and it's really freshened it up. The wooden star was a Christmas present from James, but I decided it was too beautiful to put away with the rest of the Christmas decorations so gave him pride of place!
Above the mantlepiece is a metal note and photo holder, which is just some cheap garden fencing I bought then spray painted gold. It's got some of our favourite memories and photographs, and has inspired me to get out my Polaroid camera again! I've also added some of the prints from @positive.pal on instagram too which are so lovely.
As you may have spotted, no the fireplace isn't the home to a lovely wood burning fire, instead James' guitar amp, which actually does fit nicely tucked away in here... Perhaps one day the amp will have a home of it's own and we might have a wood fire! It is great that this side of the house isn't attached to any neighbours though so he can play guitar pretty loudly as normal!
Moving round, this is something you've probably seen before, our window seat (go and have a look at my last home diaries post to see how I made it!) We've definitely been making use of it, perhaps even more that I thought we would! Its such a lovely little sun trap in the afternoon, and I've loved spending time reading up here.
The wall lights were a great find in the sale in B&Q at only £6 each! They came with a cage on top but we preferred them without. The rug is a Dunelm purchase and really softens the space. I think if we knew we'd be here for a long time we might have bought blinds for this room to warm it up in the winter months, it suits us perfectly for now though!
As you can tell through these pictures, the weather changed dramatically throughout me taking them! First with rain and hail then to beautiful sunshine! These placemats I bought in the next sale, I think they were only about £3 each! I love a bargain. I also love that we have the bare brick wall in here!
Below is one of my most favourite places in the house, I like to call it our breakfast bar, however its also just above the washing machine and utility cupboard, and it's my favourite place to bake too, so it has many uses!
These herb pots were given to us from our wedding list and after months of not filling them we've been using them so much! I really love how they add some green to the space.
I think that's just about it! I love posts like this with photos from people's homes so I hope you've enjoyed it too! I have written below where we found most of the pieces so you can have a nose if you're interested.
Let me know what you think!
Emily xx
