Easter Decorations.
I hope you are well and enjoying the lead up to Easter as much as you can in this strange time. I've been filling my time with getting into our little garden, with baking and with making! I love any excuse to get a little crafty, especially when celebrating different seasons.
As James and I have our own home this year it's even more special to be able to have our own space to decorate and to enjoy. Every year at home my mum has always made an easter tree, using twigs collected on a walk then filled with all kinds of different coloured eggs!
As Easter started to approach and there were no shops open to buy easter decor, I had to be a bit creative in what I made. I had a quick look on Pinterest and found some salt dough Easter eggs which I thought looked amazing. I was a little worried that mine might look like someone much littler than me made them, but I thought I'd give them a go none the less! I don't have any of my own children to entertain, although you might think so making things like this... So whatever your age you can give them a go!

I used a pretty standard salt dough recipe which uses:
1 Cup Flour
1/2 Cup Salt
1/2 Cup Water
I then mixed them altogether until they formed a dough.
Using a rolling pin I then rolled them out to about 1/2 cm thick. Then using an egg shaped cookie cutter I cut as many eggs out that I could. I made 17 eggs with a little left over which I used to make a couple of carrots, which I definitely should have made more of! Obviously the number you make will depend on the dough thickness and the size of your cutter. Then before putting them in the oven use a straw to make the whole for the string to hang though - this is a very important step which is definitely something I'd forget! Thankfully I did not.
Using some acrylic paint I painted a base coat of paint all over the eggs, turning them over once one side had dried.
Once the base coat had dried, I used a white POSCA paint pen to draw some little designs onto the eggs. I did this pretty roughly, I think the rustic look works well haha! I also splattered some black paint onto the plain white eggs to give them a speckled look.
After the paint was dry I looped some brown twine through the hole so they could hang, and then tied a little lace around this twine to add another texture. I think they look pretty cute!
I then hung them on some twigs which we collected on a walk and popped them into a vase on the window sil. I also added a few more eggs which I had alongside the homemade ones. I'm pretty happy with the finished product!
I hope this gives you some inspiration in the lead up to Easter. Thankyou for reading!
